Bud Not Buddy

Dear Reader,
The book I read is a very sad book at the beginning, mixed in with a lot of flips and twists resulting in a happy ending. The book is about Bud Caldwell, a man who has lost a lot but still looks to gain plenty. Bud at the beginning of the story is in a foster home because his mom had just died a few years back. He has been adopted very numerous times and always ends up in the place he began, the home. Until one time he escapes from the home and goes off looking for his father, as he takes off to find his father he stumbles upon a man who is known as “Lefty” Lewis. He takes Bud all the way to Grand Rapids to see his father, and in the end the man who he thought was his father was actually his grandpa.
My theme for this blog is revolved around determination. I believe that being determined towards something is very important. In the book “Bud not Buddy”, Bud does not have a lot going for him, but yet keeps a goal in his head to find the man who he believes is his father.  Bud has never seen this man in person, nor has he ever talked to him before but stays determined to finally meet him, and figure out that they are related. Bud inspires me greatly, to reach for my dreams because our goals much like Buds, started off little and got bigger and bigger as we worked harder towards them. I hope this inspires others as well to keep hope and finish what you started.
I represent my theme of determination, in this blog in several ways. First being a day in the life…showing the point of view of Bud Caldwell as he goes through a regular day. Second, being an obituary of Janet Caldwell, Bud’s mother who died when he was very young, and was left with nothing. Third, is the making of a family tree for bud Caldwell, who really has no family except his mother, and the person he believes is his father. And other than that he is alone. Lastly, I will show my theme in ten good reasons to be motivated and stay motivated.

-Gail Devers

A day in the life of Bud Caldwell....

I woke up under my tree by the library; I checked my suitcase to make sure that all my treasures were there. And when I found that they were all in the right spot I let out a sigh of relief. I then got out from under the tree and headed towards the soup kitchen. I was hoping I wasn’t late, but I probably was, I’d slept for what seemed like forever!
As I approached the line heading towards the soup kitchen I found out I was too late. And right then and there I realized I needed to find Herman E. Calloway, the man who must be my father. I ended up meeting a family that let me go inside with them. I ate with them and thanked them graciously after the meal. Afterwards I headed towards the library to get directions towards Grand Rapids. It was gonna be a busy night, but sometime tomorrow i would be meeting my father!

Obituary

Today in God’s name rests Angel Janet Caldwell, the mother of Bud Caldwell. She was a beautiful woman who was always there for bud when she was not at work. She brought many happy times to that young man, and many unforgettable memories. Even though Bud is her only Kin she will be missed by those she embraced.

I chose the genres for this blog for many different reasons. First I chose the day in the life of, because I thought it was important to give you an idea of what Bud experiences, without having anyone care for him, and having nowhere to go for shelter and also the troubles he has to go to get food, but yet is till motivated to find his father. Secondly, the obituary, showing that Bud after the death of his mother, is left to fend for himself, and with nowhere to go, he sets off looking for the man who he thinks is his father, without ever seeing him before. Thirdly, the family I chose to portray the loneliness of bud having no family members to go to, but yet still seeks out to find the man who he believes is his father. And lastly the ten good reasons to be determined, I thought were important, because when you are determined, you are motivated to accomplish something, and in this case Bud did, he found out the man who he thought was his father was actually his grandpa.
